SUV Claims Life of Des Plaines Bicyclist

In what appears to be a horrific incident, 52 year old bicyclist, Alavaro Chavez-Farias, was struck and killed by the driver of a Cadillac Escalade at 8:07 p.m. on Monday in Des Plaines.  A photograph of Mr. Chavez-Farias's bike after the accident was posted on Facebook by a passer-by and demonstrates that he was struck with great velocity and/or that the SUV ran over his bicycle.  The cyclist was riding in the 500 block of North Wolf Road when he was struck by the vehicle traveling in the same direction.  Police are still investigating the matter.  The cause of the incident has not been reported.

Police Looking For Motorist That Struck And Killed Northwest Suburban Bicyclist

Police are looking for a vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet, with front end damage that struck and killed a bicyclist in Stone Park, Illinois last night.  The victim, Marina Gonzalez, 47, was riding her bicycle not far from her home near the 1800 block of Mannheim Road in the northwest suburb.  The motorist fled the scene following the incident.  Anyone with information about the driver is urged to contact the police department at 708.450.3215.

No details about how the accident happened have been reported.

Help Finalize Des Plaines Bicycle Network

The city of Des Plaines, Illinois is working to improve commuting via bicycle. On Wednesday, July 15th city officials will be meeting to finalize the routes of a proposed bicycle network.
