26 Year Old Chicago Bicyclist Killed By Driver In Old Town

A 26 year old male bicyclist was killed by a driver in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood during yesterday's rush hour, according to DNAinfo Chicago.  Robert Cann was riding southbound on Clybourn Avenue when he was struck by the driver at around 6:45 p.m. who was reportedly traveling in the same direction.  We was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 7:05 p.m., according to The Chicago Tribune.

The incident occurred on a fairly wide stretch of roadway in front of iconic Chicago bicycle shop, Yojimbo's Garage, near the intersection of North Clybourn Avenue and North Larrabee Street, DNAinfo reported.  It was immediately apparent that the crash was serious.  The owner of Yojimbo's, Marcus Moore, reported that the cyclist lost part of his leg at the scene.  Photos on the DNAinfo website suggest a very significant collision.

Bicyclist Killed By Metra Train At Hanover Park Station

A 30 something year old male bicyclist was killed by a Metra train early this morning in Hanover Park, according to The Chicago Tribune.  The incident occurred at the Hanover Park station on the Milwaukee District West line.  The incident reportedly occurred at around 6:30 a.m. this morning.  Few facts have been reported to explain how this incident occurred.  Much of the reporting has so far focused on how disruptive the event apparently was to Metra service. The Tribune reported that the bicyclist was crossing from the outbound side to the inbound side when he was struck.  His name has not been reported. 

Chicago Bicyclist Left For Dead In Street After Apparent Hit-And-Run, CPD Investigating

Found by a snowplow driver, a bicyclist lay dead in the street this morning on the city's South Side, the apparent victim of a hit-and-run.  The man, probably in his 40s, was found in the 300 block of West Pershing Road.  The Chicago Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.

Bicyclist Killed In Rogers Park In Intersection Incident

A male bicyclist was killed yesterday in an incident in Rogers Park with a car.  Reports have placed the victims age at 40 and 69 and have offered little credible explanation for the cause of the incident.  According the The Chicago Breaking News Center, the man was riding westbound on West Farwell Avenue when his bike came into contact with a vehicle at the intersection with Ridge Boulevard.  Media sources have emphasized that the intersection was controlled in all directions by stop signs but have not stated whether independent witnesses contributed to claims that the cyclist ran a stop sign.  The biker was killed at the scene and it is not clear whether police statements about the cause were based solely on the motorist's account.

Bicyclist Killed On Dan Ryan Expressway

A 28 year old man from Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood was killed last night when he was struck while riding his bicycle on the Dan Ryan Expressway.  The incident occurred at around 9:00 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the Expressway near Garfield Boulevard.  The man, Christopher Hippchen, was dead on the scene.  Click here to read the account from cbs2chicago.com.

Exactly how this accident occurred has not yet been reported.  It is illegal to ride a bicycle on Illinois expressways.

Police Looking For Motorist That Struck And Killed Northwest Suburban Bicyclist

Police are looking for a vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet, with front end damage that struck and killed a bicyclist in Stone Park, Illinois last night.  The victim, Marina Gonzalez, 47, was riding her bicycle not far from her home near the 1800 block of Mannheim Road in the northwest suburb.  The motorist fled the scene following the incident.  Anyone with information about the driver is urged to contact the police department at 708.450.3215.
